This Fashion Designer is Making Women in STEM into Style Icons
Northern California based designer, Holly Renee is merging together fashion, science and art while promoting a powerful message that Scientists need to be seen and heard.
The Shenova line features artful digitally printed custom themed fabrics (often using actual scientific and technical illustrations) in simple, classic professional cut dresses and skirts that are travel-friendly.
Holly is a fashion designer and artist who grew up in a family of scientists, programmers and engineers. She first created a Retinal Neuron dress for a graduating Neuroscientist at Berkeley who commissioned a piece that expressed both "Sciencey" and Feminine sides of herself.
After she listed her first design on Etsy, the dress quickly found enthusiastic niche audience of lively women in the STEM fields who loved expressing their passion for their fields of study through their wardrobes.
Her customers love the designs and keep coming back for more, because they enjoy how conversations are started by the recognizable imagery.
Shenova "Edu-fashion" dresses are quickly becoming iconic and are now worn by smart women worldwide. The pieces are made to order and sewn in California.
Women in the STEM fields are unfortunately plagued by "Imposter Symdrome", the feeling of doubting their own accomplishments. By wearing Shenova's empowering designs, it allows them to step into their own confidence and feel emboldened.

One of her best selling designs was the Gravitational Waves Dress, a physics design which was made using actual astrophysics data from the Nobel Prize Winning LIGO discovery.
Holly believes that by raising visibility for women in the STEM fields (and for science in general) that their presence and messages become more memorable.
